Jewellery giant Pandora reveals new stores on the way for Australia and NZ — including four in WA

Danish jewellery behemoth Pandora is gearing up to open a total of 15 new stores across Australia and New Zealand this year as it aims to evolve into a brand known beyond just charms and bracelets. It has already opened the first of those new stores in Queensland in April, with the rest set to be opened progressively between now and November. Speaking to The West Australian this week, Pandora Australia and New Zealand managing director Travis Liddle revealed the expansion plans will also include the rollout of four new stores in WA — with Mirrabooka opening at the end of this month, Bunbury in September, and Baldivis and Perth DFO in November. Pandora already has 15 stores in WA, including Booragoon, Carousel, Innaloo and Karrinyup. “We’re really seeing WA as a good opportunity for us,” Mr Liddle said. “Bunbury, what we would call a little bit more of a regional approach, is really just to get to more customers and really get the brand out there.” Mr Liddle said Pandora had been on a journey for the past three years driving what it called its Phoenix growth strategy. He simply described it as “establishing Pandora as a little bit more than charms and carriers (bracelets)”. The growth strategy was yielding positive results, Mr Liddle said, with Pandora reporting an 8 per cent lift in revenue to 28.1 billion Danish krone ($42.2b) in the 2023 financial year. “We’ve got amazing other categories; we’ve got amazing rings, necklaces, pendants and that’s where we’re trying to position the brand moving forward, as a full jewellery brand,” Mr Liddle said. “That comes also with bringing new customers and consumers into the fold. “We don’t want less consumers to purchase our charms and carriers, we just want more to purchase into those other categories.” Central to its strategy is the launch of its lab-grown diamonds in Australia, the US and UK, as well as the rollout of a refreshed store format called Evoke. “That new store design we will have around 35 of them this year alone and then across the next three years, we’ll have another 100,” Mr Liddle said. “It really supports that full jewellery brand concept that I’ve been bashing on about.” As retailers across the country grapple with consumer pullback amid cost-of-living pressures, Mr Liddle said the challenging economic backdrop has “not stopped us from moving forward”. “A way to engage in tough times is you’ve got to innovate, you’ve got to bring something new to the table because it becomes more competitive and that share of wallet becomes much, much tighter,” he said. With stores in more than 100 countries, Mr Liddle said the best-selling Pandora products were consistent around the world. “One thing that we have seen a little bit more skewed in Australia is (that there’s a bit) more of a trend to gold,” he said. The brand in May launched its latest 50-piece Essence collection, which debuted at the Australian Fashion Week. “They’re designs that really resonate with Australian consumers, they’re organic, they’re a little bit more refined and they’re quite fashion-forward,” he said.
