Donnybrook overcame an early scare at VC Mitchell Park on Sunday to comprehensively beat Harvey-Brunswick-Leschenault by 70-points.

Donnybrook fans began to fear a repeat of last week's shock loss to Bunbury as the Lions started the match by booting three unanswered goals.

Lions' ruckman Cameron Pether dominated the hit-outs early while Jason Hastie was lively up forward, kicking two majors within the first 10-mintues of the match.

Donnybrook's Jason Brennan kicked two of his four goals for the match to close the opening term out strongly for the home side, with both teams entering the first break all tied up at 4.2 (26) to 4.2 (26).

Brennan started the second term where he left off, providing a lot of run throughout the midfield and accumulating a lot of possession.

Don's players Jason Orr and Simon Parry started to demonstrate their class after quiet first quarters as the home side began to get the game back on their terms.

The youthful Lions tried to keep up with their more experienced opponents throughout the second term with Jack Quinn and Brad Strano labouring to ensure the Dons did not get too far in front.

The Lions entered the extended break 17-points down and clearly more fatigued than the Dons.

The Dons came out firing after half time with Brennan, Orr, Parry and youngster Reece Ralston among the major ball winners.

Kris Clarkson (three goals) and Christopher Cross (two) also started to lift as Donnybrook began to break away from the persistent Lions.

Donnybrook piled on eight straight final quarter goals as the young Lions team ran out of legs.
