Catching Lisa’s killer: Secret police footage offers chilling insights into the death of Lisa Govan

Secret footage of a police raid on the bikie gang clubhouse where Kalgoorlie woman Lisa Govan is suspected of being killed 27 years ago has given chilling insights into the long-running murder mystery. The hand-held video footage is revealed in new episodes of The West Australian’s true-crime docuseries Catching Lisa’s Killer: Fear and Murder in Kalgoorlie. The two episodes are released four years after the original seven-part series threw up new clues about what happened to Ms Govan. The forensic analysis of the case by The West’s chief reporter Ben Harvey and executive producer Natalie Bonjolo exposed flaws in the original investigation by detectives and shone the spotlight on one of Australia’s most secretive organised crime groups — the Club Deroes Outlaw Motorcycle Gang. The 28-year-old was last seen partying with Deroe bikies at the gang’s Boulder Road Clubhouse. She has not been seen since the morning of October 8, 1998, when she was spotted standing out the front of the clubhouse, three hours after she was seen kissing senior Deroe Andrew Edhouse. Edhouse is one of Australia’s most notorious outlaws, having beaten multiple murder charges. He goes by the nickname “Crowie” because of his predilection for beaten people with a crow bar. The fresh episodes chronicle new information generated from this year’s inquest into Ms Govan’s disappearance, piecing together her final hours in precise detail. The series charts the brutality of her death, as described by a key witness at the inquest, and offers a fresh lead about where her body may be. Bonjolo said the two new episodes answered a lot of questions thrown up by the original series — and raised several important new queries about the case. “The original Catching Lisa’s Killer documentary exposed secrets that had been kept quiet for a quarter of a century,” Bonjolo said. “For the first time, Lisa’s association with the Club Deroes was explained in full, and fresh evidence about her last moments were brought to light. “But one question remained unanswered — how did she die? These new episodes paint a fuller picture of what happened to Lisa Govan when she went into the Club Deroes headquarters all those years ago.” The film of the police raid, which was conducted six days after Ms Govan vanished, was released exclusively to The West Australian. “The footage from inside the clubhouse is quite damning,” Harvey said. “Viewers will be appalled by what they see. And they will be perplexed by a new lead about where her body may have been taken.” Edhouse and his associate Trefor Atkinson were arrested on suspicion of her murder but neither men were charged. Their testimony at the inquest is explained in the new episodes of the crime series. The Govan mystery has gripped WA for decades and the Catching Lisa’s Killer docuseries was the go-to true crime series when it was released by The West in 2021. A podcast of the Govan inquest produced by Bonjolo and Harvey won the multimedia prize at this month’s WA Media Awards after storming the charts in late 2024.
