Beaming Jodie Haydon, Anthony Albanese lead guest list for annual Midwinter Ball
The nation’s leaders have swapped the ties and power suits for tuxedos and glamorous frocks at parliament’s annual Midwinter Ball.
Politicians, ambassadors, members of the media and influential figures have shown up on Wednesday night for the annual event hosted by the parliamentary press gallery.
Delayed this year from its usual mid-June date because of the May federal election, it didn’t stop many of the country’s leaders from dressing the part as they dashed into the Great Hall.
The Prime Minister’s fiancee Jodie Haydon chose a stunning form-fitting, floor length red dress, while Anthony Albanese looked like the cat who ate the cream alongside her.
Ms Haydon’s dress was Carla Zampatti’s iconic red crepe waterfall dress, reportedly reimagined for the ball.
Opposition Leader Sussan Ley has chosen a striking off the shoulder white gown by one of the hottest Aussie designers of the moment, Rebecca Vallance.
Vallance is known for her designs for “modern women”, Ms Ley paired the dress with
with gleaming metallic silver pumps and accessories for “a modern edgy look”.
Vallance was also the choice for Treasurer Jim Chalmers’ wife Laura, who wore a midnight version of the dress with gold accessories.
Outspoken independent Tasmanian senator Jacqui Lambie, who has been outspoken on the cost of living pressures facing Aussies, looked lovely in a $129 frock from Forever New, sticking to her budget.
Treasurer Jim Chalmers and his wife Laura exuded elegance,
Labor backbencher Josh Burns and his partner, Victorian Animal Justice MP Georgie Purcell, who hard launched their relationship at last year’s Mid-Winter Ball, showed off the bump for the baby they are expecting.
The first to give the public a peek into the night were TV presenter Tony Armstrong and tennis great Dylan Alcott.
Alcott donned a striking navy velvet tuxedo jacket along with a black shirt to accompany, while Armstrong opted for a traditional black suit with a tie and white shirt.
In an Instagram snap captioned “Hot boys,” the 15-time grand slam winner posted an elevator snap of the pair on their way to the event.
