‘Deeply missed’: Fay Abbott, mother of former PM Tony Abbott, dies aged 92

Fay Abbott, mother of former prime minister Tony Abbott, has died at the age of 92.

The former PM shared the news on social media on Friday, accompanied by a family photograph, describing his mum as a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

“Fay (Pete) Abbott, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother,” Mr Abbott wrote.

“Thank you for a great life. You will be deeply missed – rest in peace.”

Mr Abbott is the eldest of her four children.

Her death comes seven years after her husband, Richard “Dick” Abbott, died following a stroke in 2017.

The Daily Telegraph reports that Fay Abbott’s funeral will be held on November 11.
