Devastated family pay tribute to Sam Fowler who went missing after boat capsized off Mornington Pier

The devastated family of a man who went missing off the Mornington Pier three days ago have expressed their deepest gratitude to those involved in the tireless search.

Sam Fowler, 26, disappeared at sea after his boat capsized 1km off Melbourne’s southeast coast about 11.15pm on Friday.

He was reportedly out fishing with his friend who was rescued by another fisherman, but Mr Fowler could not been found.

His family extended their heartfelt thanks to everyone who offered love and support during this devastating time.

“The loss of Sam Fowler – a devoted uncle, loyal friend, and loving brother and partner – is deeply felt and profoundly mourned,” a statement from his family read.

“We would especially like to express our deepest gratitude to the Mornington Police, the Air Wing and Water Police, and the volunteer rescue service teams for their tireless efforts.

“Our sincere thanks also go to the Mornington Yacht Club and the local community for their unwavering support and compassion during this difficult time.”

Victoria Police scaled back an extensive search to find Mr Fowler on Monday and will reassess later this week.

Emergency services were called to Schnapper Point Drive late on Friday night and commenced an immediate search involving Water Police, Air Wing, HEMS, Life Saving Victoria and the coast guard.
