Exhibition for mental health has the power to unite the South West at Bunbury Regional Art Gallery

The annual exhibition highlighting the importance of discussing mental health will return for a fourth year in the South West next month. Bunbury Regional Art Gallery is calling on entries for the Mental Health Week Exhibition as it returns for its fourth consecutive year. This year’s theme is Walk a Mile in my Shoes, where artists are invited to share their stories, experiences or motivations through art. Organised alongside Pathways SouthWest and Mental Health Week 2021 Consortium, the exhibition celebrates art as a tool to create mental wellbeing and to consider or understand another person’s perspective, particularly following a challenging two years for the world. BRAG education officer Amber Norrish said the exhibition has gained popularity overt the past years due to the expression of the — at times taboo — topic. “The Mental Health Week Exhibition is one of BRAG’s most moving exhibitions and has grown into an important outlet for South West artists,” she said. “Art has the power to unite, and by trying to walk a mile in another person’s shoes, we can make a stronger, kinder and more understanding community.” All artists and community members are invited to submit one artwork, which can be a painting, drawing, photograph or sculpture by Tuesday, September 28. An official exhibition opening event will be held alongside the launch of Mental Health Week 2021 at BRAG on Monday, October 11 from 5pm. The exhibition will run from October 2 to 31.
