A mystery Aussie has won Thursday’s $40 million Powerball jackpot - but has no idea they are a new multimillionaire.
The winning entry was purchased from a NSW Lotteries outlet in the ACT and is the third biggest lottery prize ever won in Canberra.
If the winner had been part of The Lott Members Club and registered their ticket to a player card or online account, they would already know about their good fortune.
Instead, The Lott officials are eagerly waiting for the ticket holder to come forward.
The Lott spokesman Matt Hart said he was eagerly waiting for Australia’s newest multi-millionaire to check their ticket and make contact to start the prize claim process.
“What an incredible way to finish FY26,” he said.
“Someone has become an overnight multi-millionaire but possibly doesn’t know it yet,” he said.
“We can’t wait for them to discover this winning news! Just imagine how $40 million might change your life and the lives of your nearest and dearest.”
Mr Hart urged residents and visitors in the ACT who purchased an entry in Thursday’s Powerball to check their tickets.
“If you discover you’re holding the division one winning entry, hold on tight to that ticket and phone 131 868 as soon as possible so that we can start the prize claim process,” he said.
The winning numbers in Powerball draw 1571 on Thursday were 7, 29, 25, 18, 26, 23 and 17. The all-important Powerball number was 16.
