Denmark peace rally attracts 300 marchers in solidarity with Gaza and raises $1389 for UN World Food Programme

About 300 people gathered in Denmark on August 24 for a peace rally in solidarity with Gaza. Starting outside the Denmark RSL, the rally featured speeches, live music and a march through the town centre with traffic diverted as the crowd made its way along the main street. WA Greens MP Jess Beckerling addressed the crowd and called on the Federal Government to take stronger action to help the people of Palestine. She said Australia had to stop selling weapons to Israel and urged people to keep up the pressure on the Prime Minister. “This is not about hate. This is about justice. It’s not about antisemitism. It’s about anti-genocide,” she said. “Let’s keep up the pressure, because we know that the Albanese Government can and must do practical things to bring an end to this genocide and it’s on all of us to make sure that happens.” The rally raised $1389 which will go to the United Nations World Food Programme to provide aid to Gaza and other conflicts. The rally had attracted unpleasant online comment, according to organisers. “While a counter-protest was expected, it did not materialise,” they said in a statement. “Instead, the Denmark rally drew overwhelming support from the local community, despite online attempts to shame the gathering. “It shows even small communities can make their voices heard.”
