Great Southern Grammar hand Albany Primary final round defeat to deny perfect season in under-12s

Great Southern Grammar recorded a crucial victory over the league champions Albany Primary to leapfrog Parklands in the Albany Junior Soccer Association under-12 competition last Saturday.

Although the league title is already won, Albany Primary were determined to go through the league season undefeated and battled hard in the first half to avoid conceding.

The whistle went for the break and they were halfway to achieving the clean sheet they required.

However, Great Southern Grammar were determined to spoil the party and Samuel Osborne scored twice to help them earn a hard-fought three points and second place in the league as a result.

Albany Primary and Great Southern Grammar will fight it out this Saturday for the cup.

Polonia Red had already secured the under-13s title when they met the second-placed Denmark Black and the latter needed to avoid defeat to guarantee second spot.

In the end Polonia Red were too strong and won the match 5-0 but with Albany Bayswater de-feating Grammar 3-2, Denmark Black managed to just hold on to second.

In the under 14s, a 3-2 win to Stirling Rangers over Polonia in last week’s potential title decider turned out to be the decisive result with both sides finishing their league seasons with dominant wins. Polonia will be looking for revenge in the cup.

Rovers 51 were defeated 3-2 by their title-winning sister team Rovers 19 but finished the season in second place, climbing above Mt Barker who drew with Denmark 2-2.

Rovers 51 and Mt Barker were level on points but Rovers 51 finished on top given their better head-to-head record.

In the 18s the title came to the final league match of the season between Albany Bayswater and Polonia Red.

Polonia Red were without a couple of their key defenders and Albany Bayswater did not hesitate in punishing the weakened side, racing into a 5-0 lead.

Polonia Red pulled one back before the break but the damage was done.

A much more even second half followed but Albany Bayswater were not in danger of surrendering their lead and went on to claim the league title by one point after the 5-2 win.

Polonia will be hoping to be back to full strength for the cup final.
