GSSA 2025: Dylan Cook treble sees off Polonia and nails league and cup double for Albany Caledonian reserves

Albany Caledonian men’s reserves completed a league and cup double, following up their five-point topping of the league ladder with a 3-1 victory over Polonia in their Great Southern Soccer Association Cup final on Saturday. They pipped Phoenix in the season-long league competition and were winners over Polonia in the cup thanks to a Dylan Cook hat-trick in the showpiece. Cook’s first two goals came five minutes apart midway through the first half and although an Archie Smith penalty put Polonia back in contention after 39 minutes, Cook struck again after 64 minutes to make the game safe. Calies’ Taylor Clay was named man of the match. The women’s reserves’ cup went to Phoenix who overcame Rovers 2-0 on September 19. Amaya Dobbe did as she has done all season — scoring both goals and being named best on ground. Her strikes came in each half, taking her tally in the cup to seven in just three matches. The men’s socials cup final was decided on penalties after Phoenix and Crosskeys shared the spoils 1-1 after normal and extra time. Crosskeys were the eventual winners with Phoenix earning the consolation of Nathan Groenewold being named best on ground. Both goals came in regular time, Matthew Rockwood-Turner putting Crosskeys ahead after six minutes while Groenewold equalised a minute into the second half for Phoenix. Griffins were comfortable winners of the women’s socials cup, hitting Sharks for six in their final. Pippa Fiegert struck the opener after six minutes with Adalyn Sharpe collecting the first of her double with 19 minutes gone. Molly O’Malley made it 3-0 and then an own goal piled more woe on the battling Sharks who finished the half 4-0 down. Tully Robinson pulled one back but Fiegert and Sharpe each fired home to ensure Griffins added gloss for a 6-1 final score. Sharks’ goalkeeper Shahni Gilbert was named player of the match.
