IN PICTURES: Surf Life Saving’s WA Country Championships and Carnival bring hundreds to Midds for long weekend

Hundreds of competitors, spectators and supporters descended on Albany for the WA Country Championships and Carnival, enjoying the Australia Day long weekend at the iconic Middleton Beach. More than 800 competitors turned out for the annual competition, hailing from 21 regional and metro clubs across WA. Albany Surf Life Saving Club president Anna Emery said the club spirit and sportsmanship of the Albany members, supporters and spectators who showed up over the weekend had been outstanding. “It was a huge weekend of events, and it truly took a village to pull it all together,” she said. “The way so many of (our members) stepped up, volunteering with pride, enthusiasm and big smiles was nothing short of amazing. “Both the CEO and president of SLSWA commented on the incredible club pride on display, and shared how welcoming, happy, and united our Albany members are. “What a wonderful reflection of who we are as a club. “Bringing home the pennants flag at the Fuel to Go & Play WA Country Championships on home soil makes it even more special. “What an incredible club we have. “We couldn’t be prouder.” Albany was runner-up in the club standings for the country championships, with the City of Bunbury taking the flag, and Sorrento the overall winners of the country carnival.
