There is no better time to get on your bike than during Bike Month this October — and one Great Southern Shire is giving riders an extra reason to cycle with Pedal Plantagenet.

The program will offer a range of free community events to get more people on their bikes. Shire of Plantagenet community development officer Sonja Parker said the Shire hoped people would take up a new hobby or brush up on their old skills.

“It’s so they can enjoy the great benefits for physical and mental health, getting around the Shire for transport and recreational fun,” she said. “There are three events. The first is a ladies cycling skills session to encourage women of all ages to learn to ride or refresh their cycling skills in a welcoming, fun and supportive environment on October 3.

“The second event is a families and kids cycling skills session in the afternoon to show young new riders and their parents a safe way to ride, and also test out the most popular route to ride to school so they can ride more often with confidence.”

The final community event will take place on October 17, featuring a guided ride, a sausage sizzle and refreshments at Wilson Park. For details, visit the Shire’s website.
