Saturday night fever! Albany City Dance Club annual ball swings its way to raising $3810 for local charities

Two local charities have waltzed away with a share of $3810 thanks to the Albany City Dance Club’s Rainbow Coast Festival of Dance. On a night when the sequins shimmered and St Joseph’s College gymnasium swayed to tunes from times past, 130 sequence dancers foxtrotted and cha-cha-cha-ed in aid of good causes at the club’s annual ball. The festival took place over three days from October 3-5 with the Saturday night extravaganza being the highlight. The money raised was split between the Albany Community Hospice and Albany South Coast Lions Club. Dance club president Tim Wellstead said the ball was the high spot of the year. “Everyone had a super time and the feedback was great,” he said. “It is a chance for everyone to get dressed up and dance in a way that we don’t do for the rest of the year. “It’s also nice to do it for two great causes — organisations which I suspect we’ll all need to use at some point in our lives.” The dancers came from all over the Great Southern, boosting the core Albany membership. The Albany City Dance club is the oldest in WA and will celebrate its 75th anniversary next year.
