Construction of a staircase allowing easy access from the Albany Marina into the water is under way, with the project expected to be completed in the coming weeks.
Contractors Jetty & Marine Constructions Pty Ltd began construction of the Albany Marina water access staircase on June 22.
Located on the western side of the rock groyne in front of Due South before the Albany Town Jetty, the stairs will provide a more formal point for swimmers to enter the water rather than clambering down the rocks as they had previously.
The project is run through the Department of Transport and Major Infrastructure and funded in part by the State Government.
DTMI posted a notice to mariners using the area warning of the works, which will be undertaken from a barge equipped with a crane, and urged them to take caution of divers and other workers around the site.
“Temporary yellow buoys equipped with flashing lights will be placed around work areas as a warning to approaching vessels,” the notice reads.
“Mariners are advised to maintain a proper lookout at all times, keep a safe distance and reduce speed and wake around the works, follow all temporary markers and signage, and comply with directions from site personnel as required.”
Completion of the stairs is expected in the second week of July.
A formal opening ceremony will be scheduled once the project is finished.
