Margaret River school continues domination of WA School Surfing Titles with 19th straight victory

Margaret River Senior High School has continued its dominance of the WA School Surfing Titles by winning an astounding 19th consecutive championship title. MRSHS students claimed victory in four of the eight categories at Trigg Beach last Friday, winning the senior boys surfing, senior girls surfing, junior girls surfing and junior girls bodyboarding divisions. Macklin Flynn and Okie Fraser were the victorious boys pair and Ruby Berry and Kaleisha Lauders were the winning girls duo as the school pulled off a clean sweep of both senior surfing categories. “It was definitely tough out there, but so good to have a teammate like Macklin in the water with you,” Okie said. “It’s so nice to be able to compete with one of your best friends out there, surfing is typically an individual sport so when you get to do it with a teammate it’s pretty special,” Ruby said. Olive Hardy and Leila Fraser finished on top in the junior girls surfing — beating out another MRSHS team of Grace Cook and Mia Jacobs — while Stella Annesley and Sienna Bowdell claimed the junior girls bodyboarding title. The winners have secured their places for November’s national school titles in Wollongong.
