A woman in her early 20s has been flown to Perth after injuring herself surfing at Lefthanders break north of Margaret River.

The RAC Rescue helicopter was sent to help State Emergency Service and St John WA ambulance crews due to the remote location.

A St John WA spokesperson said the woman was being transported due to concerns about possible spinal injuries.

It was understood the woman possibly collided with a loose surfboard or another surfer.

No sharks were involved in the incident, which also was unrelated to the Margaret River Pro currently on a lay day due to poor conditions.
