Naveed Akram: Man wrongly identified as Bondi Beach shooter issues plea on social media, says life is at risk

A man wrongly identified as one of the Bondi Beach gunmen has issued a heartbreaking plea on social media.

On December 14, Naveed Akram, 24, was arrested by police after he and his father Sajid Akram, 50, allegedly opened fire on a Jewish Hanukkah event, killing 15 innocent people.

A man who shares the same name as the 24-year-old has spoken out after his picture circulated alongside the image of the actual alleged attacker.

“This photo being circulated is NOT the person involved in the Bondi incident,” he posted on Facebook.

“That is me, and I am completely innocent and have no connection whatsoever to what happened.

“Someone is falsely using my picture, which is putting my safety, reputation, and well-being at risk.”

He urged people to stop sharing his picture on social media and start reporting images that have already been posted, or use the comment section to correct people.

“Please help stop this false identification before it causes serious harm,” he wrote.

“Thank you for your support and understanding.”
