2020 International Film Festival launches at Bunbury Regional Entertainment Centre on Thursday

This summer, prepare to be thrilled, laughed out of your seat, amazed and moved in unusual ways as the 2020 International Film Festival kicks off at the Bunbury Regional Entertainment Centre on Thursday.

Running for four weeks, the highly acclaimed festival will see 12 of the world’s most celebrated independent films brought to audiences in the region.

Marketing executive Samantha Wright said this year BREC was doing things a little bit differently.

We have added in a lot of festival extras to make the experience a more social one.

“The box office will be open for longer, we will be hosting wine tastings in the foyer on the Friday evening sessions and will have live music on Sunday afternoon sessions.

With more than 40 sessions running throughout the month, Ms Wright said there was something for all movie buffs.

“There are thrillers, documentaries, comedies and movies you can bring your children along to,” she said. “We are also putting subtitles on for every screening of the film The Peanut Butter Falcon, which is an American film that features a character with Down Syndrome.”

Bunbury Mayor Gary Brennan congratulated the BREC team on securing such a stellar line-up of films.

“We are very fortunate to have such a world-class entertainment venue in Bunbury offering exceptional events such as the film festival,” Mr Brennan said.

The program has something for all to enjoy and I encourage the community to check it out.

This year’s line-up of films includes highly awarded Cannes Palme d’Or winner Parasite, a thrilling and darkly funny look at social disparity in South Korea.

Documentary fans will revel in the inspiring and award-winning documentary The Biggest Little Farm and winner of the 2019 Sundance World Cinema Grand Jury Prize, Honeyland.
