Leschenault Cricket Club finalised its pre-season campaign with an enterprising intraclub match on Saturday at Leschenault Recreation Park.

Aside from rewarding its top performing players across all grades from last season, new UK first grade imports Oliver Currill and Jamie Harrison made their debut for the club.

Currill opened the bowling for the LCC President’s XI, who successfully chased down 193, set by their opponents, the LCC XI.

Operating from the Paris Road end, Currill copped a bit of treatment early from Steve Denison, who had no hesitation in taking the aerial route with a series of swashbuckling shots.

Youngsters Tyne Dodds and Nico Le Roux also batted sensibly while at the wicket, despite some quality bowling from Jacob Templeton.

However Currill, who is already highly-rated by the Green Caps, returned later in the day to notch a splendid 67 not out, which ultimately helped get the President’s XI home.

Aside from Currill’s knock, Luke Bennett (52 off 53 balls) also looked in excellent touch at the crease, while Harrison (45 off 21 balls) displayed a degree of firepower in his strokeplay.

The Green Caps host reigning BDCA champions Colts in Saturday’s opening round clash of the 2022-23 season.
