BDCA 2023: League leaders Leschenault survive run-chase scare against Donnybrook

After gradually getting on top of Donnybrook during Saturday’s first grade clash at Leschenault Recreation Park, league leaders Leschenault were expected to run down their target of 123 with minimal fuss.
However less than 30 minutes into their run-chase, defeat was staring them in the face, as the Green Caps crashed to 3-10 inside five overs.
This was due to excellent bowling from Dons duo Izaak Bedford (2-15 off three overs) and Noah Greenmount (1-9 off four overs), which gave the visitors a fighting chance to secure an unlikely victory.
Aware a spark was needed to revert them back on course, the experienced combination of Tom Buchanan and Oliver Currill put on a superb 99-run partnership for the fifth wicket, which ensured the Green Caps got home in the 26th over.
Saturday’s victory ensured a memorable minor premiership for Leschenault, who have yet to lose this season.
Donnybrook’s defeat in this game means they now face a nervy final day against Marist at Egan Park, in order to remain in the top four, following Eaton’s gripping victory over Dalyellup.
