BDCA 2023: Leschenault Green Caps bank another victory following successful trip up to Collie

Leschenault snapped their two-game skid in the Bunbury and Districts Cricket Association first grade competition on Saturday against Collie at Roche Park. After rolling the home side for 73 at the start of the 36th over, the Green Caps successfully chased down the small target off 14.2 overs. Despite winning the toss and batting, Collie’s top order faced stiff resistance from Brayden Lee — an inclusion into Leschenault’s side — who snared 2-7 and four maidens from his first eight overs. Unfortunately for the hosts, Greg Tomasini (11 off 39 balls) and Blair Malatesta (31 off 58 balls) were the only batters who were able to help the scoreboard tick over positively — with no other Collie player able to hit double figures. Defending 74, Collie knew they had to strike quickly in order to have any chance of securing an against-the-odds victory. Harley Italiano delivered this on the third ball of Leschenault’s run chase, after knocking over experienced opener Justin Woods. While the runs were slow and pressure was evident, the sheer amount of time and wickets in the pavilion were always in the visitors’ favour throughout. The Green Caps, presently in third position, have a bye this week, and will take on league leaders Dalyellup on November 25 at Dalyellup College.
