BDCAW 2023: Harvey-Benger win, Leschenault suffer defeat under cloudy skies across Bunbury
Superb bowling from Colts Cricket Club duo Emma Norrish and skipper Shani Waugh helped guide their side to a determined 13-run win over Leschenault in Sunday’s BDCA women’s first grade contest at the Bunbury Recreation Ground.
After being sent in by Leschenault, the hosts were dismissed for 92 off 27.2 overs, with the thick cloud cover resulting in plenty of ball movement.
Despite a steady start, the Green Caps fell in a hole, slumping to 3-15 and 6-47.
Once Addison Hall secured the prized wicket of Hollie Perkin for a third-ball duck, the rest of their innings unravelled and they were dismissed for 79 at the end of the final over.
Donnybrook’s clash against Marist at Egan Park was rescheduled for a later date. The reason for the shift is due to Dalyellup’s move from first to second grade, which implicated the fixture of both competitions.
In second grade, Harvey-Benger’s women’s team continued its winning away form, defeating Hay Park by eight wickets on Sunday.
The Redbacks won the toss and elected to bat, with Harvey-Benger’s Laura Cheney and Megan Minton both taking early wickets.
Hay Park were able to steady their innings with a solid middle order partnership, but Cheney (2-17) and Minton (3-10) returned at the end of the innings to restrict Hay Park to 5-121 off 20 overs.
In reply, Harvey-Benger’s chase was always under control with Amy Capogreco (61 off 47 balls) and Rebecca Fry (10 off 29 balls) both retiring not out as the visitors reached the total with 17 balls to spare.
