Bras on Buses: Buswest dresses up to raise money for close-to-heart cause

Staff at Buswest Bunbury have thrown their support around Breast Cancer Awareness month and have raised money by dressing up not just themselves, but their company buses last Thursday. Staff threw on colourful bras, enjoyed a sausage sizzle, made sculptures out of bras for a competition, and threw raffles with all funds going towards breast cancer research. The highlight of the day according to the staff was the idea to make a giant bra for one of their buses and decorate it in pink streamers. Operations manager of Buswest Lisa Barlow took it upon herself to fundraise for the cause after she was diagnosed with breast cancer. “I went through it at the beginning of the year,” she said. “Luckily enough I picked up on it very early, just through a routine mammogram, but that encouraged me to then promote it out. Ms Barlow said the importance of fundraisers like this is not just raising money, but getting the word out about how breast cancer can affect anyone. “We’ve actually spoken about it a lot in here, every time we’ve had a toolbox meeting, I’ve actually raised it recently again, it’s not just women who go through it.” The fundraiser made an estimate of $1500 before the day’s end. October is Breast Cancer Awareness month, with various companies having pink-themed fundraisers to raise money for the cause.
