Aces Sky has celebrated the 100-game milestone for coach Vlad Alvara and player Sydney Lewis in style, defeating Aces Navy by 40 points. Both sides from the Aces Basketball Club went head to head in their second derby during round eight of the 2022/23 Bunbury Senior Basketball League Women’s competition at the South West Sports Centre on Friday night. From the outset, Aces Sky were looking to dominate with plenty of strong pressure from Leah York while Aces Navy looked to score early. Although both sides quickly drove the ball up and down the court, Aces Sky capitalised by building up an early lead with shots via Abbey Hall and Tiahna Sears. While Aces Navy levelled the scores for a brief period, a Carly Boag intercept gave Aces Sky a 20-19 quarter time lead. The high stakes contest continued into the second quarter with Aces Sky continuing to build momentum and extend their lead. Although Aces Navy fought hard in putting up a strong defensive front, Aces Sky held on to lead 42-32 at half-time. Aces Navy continued to fight towards a comeback in the third quarter but Aces Sky continued extending their lead. Despite Aces Navy’s best efforts, Aces Sky began pulling away to lead by 20 points at the final change. Aces Sky really started to take control in the final quarter, dominating the contest and shutting down Aces Navy to claim the win 100-60. Elsewhere, Tornadoes Red defeated Tornadoes Black 71-52, while Eaton Eagles had the weekly bye.
