Bulls Maroon have continued to maintain their strong form by extending their undefeated streak to a fifth consecutive win by dispatching Bulls Gold by 42 points.

The sixth round of Bunbury Basketball Association’s 2022-23 summer season saw two derby match-ups within the men’s A Grade competition, with Bulls Maroon taking on Bulls Gold and Tornadoes Red facing off against Tornadoes Black at the South West Sports Centre on Friday.

Strong pressure by the Maroon outfit helped them work towards building an early lead during the opening quarter, while Bulls Gold fought hard to keep up.

As Clive Weeden managed to get plenty of baskets to build up Maroon’s early lead, Gold’s Kyle Hussey was quick across the court to set up shots.

Despite some inaccurate shots, Gold fought back late to trail by just three points at quarter time.

The second quarter saw the contest pick up intensity as both sides went for big shots early on.

While Bulls Maroon continued to extend their lead, Bulls Gold were hot on their tail, applying plenty of pressure while Tyson Lane got some shots in to shave the margin down.

However, late shots by Cody Hill saw Bulls Maroon hold on to maintain the lead 46-39 at half time.

While it was a fairly even contest during the first half, Bulls Maroon really took control during the third quarter, quickly driving the ball down the court and making many successful interceptions.

Despite Bulls Gold’s efforts in trying to keep up, Bulls Maroon had established a solid 24-point lead by three-quarter time.

The fourth quarter saw a similar pattern with Bulls Maroon extending their lead further to continue their undefeated streak, while Bulls Gold continued to fight hard.

However, Bulls Gold’s efforts, including strong efforts by Hussey and Lane, proved futile as Bulls Maroon went on to seal the win 113-71.

In other games, Tornadoes Black defeated Tornadoes Red 103-77, Bulls beat Eaton Eagles 112-74, and Conquerors held off Aces Sky 92-86 in what was an exciting and action-packed match.

In the B Grade competition on Thursday, Bulls Orange defeated Aces White 98-50, Conquerors beat Bulls Gold 88-61, Eaton Eagles defeated Tornadoes 71-45 and the match between Bulls Grey and Bulls Maroon ended in a 77-all draw.
