BSBL 2023: Aces Navy deliver solemn warning to Bunbury Senior Basketball League rivals with crushing victory

Not content with their impressive opening win over reigning women’s champions Aces Sky, rising force Aces Navy once again put all Bunbury Senior Basketball League women’s teams on notice. Navy clinically defeated Conquerors 103-28 on Friday night at the South West Sports Centre, with all 11 players who took to the court scoring, such was the versatile nature of their offensive brilliance. The eager fleet-footed teenagers burst out to an early 28-2 lead — a dominance which only grew the longer the match went. Aside from scoring at will, Navy players were extremely accountable defensively, restricting quality offensive threat Karinda Farrant to 13 points. At the Eaton Recreation Centre, Tornadoes Black suited up for the first time this season, defeating a new-look Eaton Eagles 72-37. While the home side displayed tremendous endeavour, ultimately Black’s height at both ends of the floor proved too much for them to handle. Aces Sky’s road to defending their women’s championship hit another speed hump, dropping their second consecutive game, 61-55, against Tornadoes Red, who forfeited their opening game of the season. In the men’s competition, Travis McNaughton dropped a game-high 43 points for Tornadoes Black, who defeated an improving Eaton Eagles 97-81. The Eagles were boosted by the inclusion of South West Slammers defensive playmaker Okummu Dech, who provided great hustle and headaches for Tornadoes Black coach Shane Goff, who coaches him at NBL1 West level during winter.
