BSBL 2023: Aces Navy hold off Tornadoes Red in exciting women’s contest

They might be a young team, but Aces Navy are becoming increasingly good at closing out tight games against experienced women’s opposition at Bunbury Senior Basketball League level. On Friday night at the South West Sports Centre, Navy hung on for a tense 61-58 win over Tornadoes Red, following Isaballa Andrew’s three-pointer with 17.8 seconds left on the clock. Tornadoes Red had an opportunity to push for overtime on the following possession, however Lauren Vincent unluckily stepped out of bounds after receiving a quick pass following the restart. Incredibly, possession changed hands multiple times inside the final 10 seconds, however Navy’s youngsters managed to hold on to the ball as the clock ran out. Elsewhere, Tiahna Sears produced another 30-point game as Tornadoes Black comfortably defeated Conquerors 85-54, while Addison Edwards superbly dropped 42 points for Aces Sky in their big 108-43 victory over the Eaton Eagles. Aside from Tornadoes Black securing a hard-fought 76-74 win over Bulls Gold, all other matches in the men’s competition were one-sided.
