Tornadoes Red have secured a double chance in the Bunbury Senior Basketball League women’s A-grade finals with a 24-point win over Conquerors.

Coming into the season’s final regular season game in third position, Tornadoes Red needed a victory and for Aces Navy to lose to jump into the top two and secure a qualifying final spot.

Aces Navy’s loss by forfeit to ladder-leaders Tornadoes Black meant Tornadoes Red controlled their own destiny, and they sealed the deal with a 77-53 victory.

Despite being no chance of making the finals, Conquerors showed plenty of fight in the first half, going into the main break trailing by only nine points.

But there was to be no shock upset, with Sophia Tomas and Jasmine Barrett (both 18 points) going to work in the second half.

The result sets up an all-Tornadoes affair in the qualifying final, with Tornadoes Red set to face-off with the competition’s dominant side Tornadoes Black.

Aces Navy warmed up for the finals with a massive 120-49 victory over Eaton Eagles.

Needing a win to keep their own remote top-two hopes alive, the winners did their work early, going into half-time with a 60-21 lead, which they continued to add to over the course of the second half.

Hannah Chatfield (29 points), Isabella Andrew (26) and Alexis Donovan (20) all had big scoring nights for Aces Navy, while Hannah Inwood and Charlotte Lofgren (both 10) got into double figures for the Eagles.

Aces Sky’s forfeit has seen them slip to fourth and into an elimination final date with Aces Navy.
