Bunbury country music artist Codee-Lee Down to host free community concert at BREC

Bunbury Regional Entertainment Centre is set to be filled with the acoustic guitar and vocals of the town’s famed country artist Codee-Lee Down as she hosts a free community concert. Recently coming under the spotlight after winning a stack of awards at the WA Country Music Awards the Bunbury singer has taken her sound across the globe with shows in New York’s Time Square and travelling across Europe. The free concert is a celebration of the release of her new single On the Run and will include a roster of her past songs as well as some from her latest EP Who I Am. Down said she was excited to get back on stage and along with her band are “ready to make the show happen”. “I am so excited to get back on stage, we have worked so hard to make the show happen, the band is ready to play and we are ready to do what we do best, entertain,” she said. Joined by fellow South West Country musician Ray Jones, the full evening of country songs also celebrates the return of live music following a tumultuous few years due to the pandemic. Down previously detailed to the Bunbury Herald her time away from music due to a “loss in confidence” but said she was excited to get back on stage especially following the pandemic. “Artists are still continuing to struggle from the effects of the pandemic, we are still trying to find our feet and shows like this allow us to play our songs again,” she said. “I think (music) is something that’s a part of me and I’ll do until the day I die ... my drummer and I always joke that our nursing homes should be close so that we can still play music when we’re 80.” Songs such as Who I Am, Roll on into Town and Boy From Idaho will be performed by Down and her band at the one night only event at 6.30pm on August 27 in the BREC Cube.
