The City of Bunbury’s “revamped” grant funding opened last week, with a number of options available to push community-led initiatives and local storytelling. Applications opened on April 20 and the City encouraged anyone with an event or project requiring a “cash injection” to apply. The 2022 grant program is based on four categories — community connection, signature events, Bunbury brighter and achievement. Mayor Jaysen Miguel said the City’s grant program had always provided great opportunities for Bunbury and this new-look program would only make those opportunities greater. “It’s important that we continue to provide support for events that help promote Bunbury as a place to live, visit and invest,” he said. “It is equally important to provide support for more grassroots initiatives that can be community-driven, and it is hoped the new community connection grants will empower our residents to build capacity and pride in their neighbourhoods. “The new streamlined application process will also make it simpler for those smaller community and neighbourhood grants. “Bunbury continues to strengthen its reputation as an events hub and I’m looking forward to seeing event organisers at all levels, from community initiatives to signature events, take advantage of this program.” The City said the purpose of the community connection category was to build a strong and resilient community where people feel safe and connected, while the signature events category was about promoting Bunbury as a thriving and premier destination for signature events, driving visitation to Bunbury and time spent in the region. Bunbury Brighter was said to be about celebrating Bunbury, sharing local stories and its connection with culture and history, and showcasing the City’s natural beauty, while the achievement category was about supporting members of the community who exemplify excellence to proudly represent and promote Bunbury positively. Applications for each category close either on May 1 or June 1 and more details can be found on the City of Bunbury website.
