Dillon James Carter, 33, sentenced to serve jail time after car chase triggers suspended imprisonment

A 33-year-old man will have to serve his suspended imprisonment after failing to pull over while driving and then abusing police. Dillon James Carter appeared by video link from Bunbury Regional Prison in the Bunbury Magistrates Court on Thursday, where he pleaded guilty to one count each of failing to stop for police, failing to provide personal details, disorderly behaviour in public, disorderly behaviour in a police station, criminal damage and no authority to drive. Police prosecutor Sgt John Seidner told the court Carter was driving in Koombana Bay on October 18 when he failed to pull over when requested by police. He continued driving on to Blair Street, where he was again directed to stop by officers but did not. Carter then turned his vehicle on to Stirling Street before stopping his car on the upper level of a multi-storey car park. At the time of the incident, his driver’s licence had been suspended. Once he stopped his vehicle, Carter began yelling and screaming at officers, including swearing at them. The shouting continued once he was in a police lock-up, where he took blankets provided to him for comfort and forced them down a toilet. Carter represented himself in court and said he accepted the facts. The guilty pleas triggered a suspended imprisonment order handed down by a Perth court in July for multiple traffic offences around the city. “I’m happy to do the time, I just wish to get through the process,” Carter said. Magistrate William Yoo sentenced him to a seven-month term of imprisonment, though he was made eligible for parole. Carter’s licence was suspended for a further nine months and he was ordered to pay fines totalling $300.
