Families turned out in droves last week to embrace the school holiday fun on offer at the Bunbury Trotting Club. The club’s Family Fun Day took place on Friday, July 15, with hundreds of people taking part in the festivities track-side — including face painting, dance and acrobatics shows, and meeting beloved Aussie cartoon dog Bluey. For many, the day marked the end of the school holidays, with youngsters from the area getting the chance to soak up the sunshine before heading back for another term. On the track, some of the area’s best trotters took part in eight races throughout the day. Gold coin donations were collected for the fundraising event Ride for Ahlia. The event was created by Tom Buchanan in honour of his niece Ahlia Williams, who died at seven years old in November 2020 of diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma — the biggest killer of children from disease in Australia. On October 1, Mr Buchanan will ride his bike more than 260km from Windy Harbour to Leschenault to raise money for the charity Run DIPG.
