A South West coach company has reached a major milestone with its first fully electric vehicle.

Go West Tours’ zero emissions coach marked its first year of operation last month, transferring employees of South 32’s Worlsey Alumina refinery near Collie between the site and Bunbury.

The company stated the coach has travelled 75,000km over its first 12 months, saving 65 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions.

General manager Brad Bunce said it was fantastic to reach the milestone.

“Electric coaches are the way of the future to help us reduce our carbon footprint and we are looking forward to building on this early success as we further develop our electric vehicle fleet,” he said.

It is the first fully electric private coach in the State and was officially launched by Climate Action Minister Reece Whitby and Regional Development Minister Don Punch in November.

The $600,000 bus has 53 seats and a full suite of safety features.
