Jimmy Rees to put Bunbury in comedy firing line with regional tour this month

After spending a decade as a children’s TV host, Jimmy Rees — better known to some as Jimmy Giggle — was nervous to share his comedic material online. But it was a move that paid off and will now see him embark on a regional tour across Australia. “I lived life for a decade prancing around in my pyjamas”, he joked of his successful run in television to the Bunbury Herald. Rees said he loved working in children’s television and was inspired during the pandemic to use online platforms to put more material out and make people laugh. “I enjoyed the process of making content as well and sort of started putting it up online,” he said. “One thing led to another and that led me to being a bit more adventurous with videos I put out there, and on different platforms. “Then a couple of years after that a pandemic rolls by and I’m off touring the country, so it was a bit of a turn around. Rees revealed guests at his two Bunbury shows could expect some fresh material from his online characters — including Jason and the guy who decides, who his social media followers will know. “There will be some local references. I’ll do my research, don’t worry,” he said. “Bunbury will be in the firing line. “There will be some improvisational parts where I’ll ask the audience to make suggestions.” Inspired by his father’s love of classic British humour, the former Giggle and Hoot television star had always dreamed of being a comedian. “I always enjoyed trying to put a smile on people’s faces whether that was at home or at school or with my friends or whatever, then eventually on stage” he said. Jimmy Rees will perform two shows at the Bunbury Regional Entertainment Centre on March 23.
