NBL1 West 2023: Shots unable to land for South West Slammers throughout frustrating home loss against Senators

The South West Slammers men’s team mixed things up prior to Saturday night’s home clash against the Warwick Senators. On the back of several heavy defeats, players and coaches participated in a designated bonding session early last week, in a bid to freshen things up for the remainder of the season. While this appeared to galvanise players and improve performance, the Senators were still able to defeat the home side 97-82. Primarily shooting from beyond the arc in a bid to blow the game open early, the Senators missed 11 of their first 12 three-point attempts, which kept the Slammers well and truly within the hunt. Unfortunately for Slammers boss Shane Goff, shots taken by his players, especially from the free-throw line, didn’t land when the game was up for grabs. Aside from missing 20 of their 42 free-throw attempts, the Slammers ended the game with four of their playmakers — Clive Weeden, Ben Stevens, Cory Richardson and Xavier Cotton — fouling out by the end of the game, despite the hosts trailing the overall foul count.
