Next generation of artists shine at Iluka Visions

The next generation of South West artistic talent were celebrated on September 17 with the opening of Iluka Visions at the Bunbury Regional Art Gallery. Iluka Vision is the annual exhibition for high school artists from Years 7-12 to showcase their talents and connect with the community. This years exhibition featured more than 700 submissions from 20 schools, with 105 artworks chosen to be on display in the gallery. The official opening and awards ceremony had more than 300 people attending over the course of the day to see through the artistic eyes of the next generation. Taking out top honours was Chiara Prince from Our Lady of Mercy with her work, “Eve — The Subjugation of Women.” Other winners included: Riley Andersen, Year 7/8 from Australind Senior High, Justine Manalad, Year 9/10 from Grace Christian, Samantha Nicolas, Year 11/12 from Bunbury Catholic College, Mimi Greenham of Bunbury Senior High for the Framers Choice Award, and the Equity Award winners Cael Oatway, Cooper Devries-Turner, Caleb Humbley, Loghan Kingsley and Bodhi Jacobs, from College Row. Bunbury Mayor Jaysen Miguel said the artistic abilities of South West youth were a must-see. “The talent shown by these young South West artist is astonishing and inspiring, “This exhibition is a fantastic way to showcase these talents to a wide audience and I encourage everyone to make their way down to Bunbury Regional Art Gallery to see for themselves,” he said. The exhibition is open at BRAG and will run until November 5.
