Players and spectators were treated to plenty of court action at the 2022 Barr and Standley Bunbury masters basketball carnival in Bunbury last Saturday. Despite the warm conditions and masks being required to be worn inside the South West Sports Centre, the atmosphere was positive. Several basketball greats hit the floor, including Australian Boomers great Mark Worthington and South West Slammers icon Michael Lay. Carnival co-ordinator Rob Dempster, who again put in a tireless effort to make the event happen, was delighted with how the occasion transpired. “We collect a bit of feedback from an email which we send out,” he said. “But by far, the most feedback we have received in previous years is to keep things as they are. For example, people do not want it to go into Sunday — they do not want to play more than four or five games.” Dempster said he was hopeful additional court space in Bunbury one day could assist in growing the carnival even further. Such is the demand for ball courts in Bunbury presently, with carnival matches were held across the South West Sports Centre and Bunbury PCYC.
