Shire of Dardanup accepts nearly $90,000 of grant funding into 2023-24 annual budget

The Dardanup Shire Council has officially accepted four grants it has received valued at nearly $90,000.

Councillors voted to accept the funding at its January 31 meeting, which will be used for a variety of council projects.

The largest source of grant funding approved was a $47,000 contribution from softwood sawmill company Wespine Industries for equipment and running costs of a Make-It Space at the shire’s new administration building, which is set to open in coming months.

Waste funding accounted for half of the grants received, with the council gaining $21,749 from the Department of Water and Environmental Regulation to build an e-waste shed at its waste transfer station in Crooked Brook.

An additional $10,028 was received from DWER to pay for compostable FOGO bin liners for residents.

The final $11,184 Better Beginnings grant, from the State Library of WA, will be spent on buying interactive touch learning tables for the children’s area of the council’s new library.

Dardanup shire president Tyrell Gardiner said he was pleased with the additional funding received.

The decision came as the council also endorsed its 2022-23 annual report.
