Marist are through to the South West Hockey League men’s A1 grand final after pulling off a shock qualifying final upset win over Boyanup on Saturday. The second-placed underdogs had lost their three regular season fixtures to the undefeated ladder-leaders by an aggregate score of 9-4 but sealed their place in the season decider with a 3-2 win at Bunbury Hockey Stadium. Boyanup will now head into the preliminary final against Towns Souths, who ended Exies’ season with a 4-1 victory in the elimination final. In the women’s finals, Associates smashed Marist 6-0 in the elimination final before Boyanup beat Robins 4-0 in the qualifying final, meaning Robins and Associates will clash in next week’s preliminary final. In the A2 men’s finals, Boyanup beat Marist 4-1 in the qualifying final and Towns South defeated Exies 2-1 in the elimination final, while the women’s fixtures saw Marist win 5-2 over Boyanup in the qualifying final and Towns South get over Exies 4-3 in the elimination final.
