Orana Cinemas in Busselton was lit up with flashing cameras and sparkles on Wednesday night, as many celebrities and highly accredited film makers made the trip south for the first red carpet event at CinefestOZ.

Dozens of people gathered at the cinemas to watch the WA premiere of film prize finalist Shayda.

Shayda is up against three other films Bromley: Light After Dark, The Rooster and Monolith, which are in the running to win Australia’s richest $100,000 annual film prize.

The winner is decided by the 2023 CinefestOZ jury, which is stacked full of big stars in the film world and consists of Robert Connolly, Debbie Liebling, Deborah Riley, Mia Wasikowska and Rob Collins.

The jury hit the red carpet for many photos and interviews along with CinefestOZ staff and board members, City of Busselton councillors, and American actor and Grey’s Anatomy star Kate Walsh.

The winner will be announced at the film prize celebration at Sabina River Farm on Saturday, September 2.
