Teenager charged after allegedly pre-arranged fight results in another teenager hitting head on concrete

A teenager has been charged after an allegedly pre-arranged fight among several youths at a South West skatepark left another teenager knocked unconscious and hitting his head on concrete. Police allege the accused teenager and the victim met at a skatepark located near the Eaton Fair Shopping Centre, after 3pm on Sunday, August 7, where they engaged in a fight that had allegedly been pre-arranged by a group of youths. During the confrontation, which was allegedly witnessed by other juveniles and adults, the victim was knocked unconscious and fell backwards, hitting his head on the concrete. The accused allegedly continued striking the victim while he lay on the concrete. After police were called to the scene, the victim was taken to hospital where it was found he had suffered a facial fracture and a large laceration to the back of the head. Australind police officer-in-charge Senior Sergeant Heath Soutar said it was disappointing to hear there were several bystanders, including adults, watching the altercation unfold and allegedly encouraging the two teenagers to continue fighting and filming the incident. “We’re very lucky that the injuries sustained by the victim were not life threatening or altering as a result of being struck and falling unconscious,” he said. “It’s also disappointing that the attack continued while he was already unconscious and couldn’t defend himself. “We have had some incidences of youths fighting recently and we will always do our best to ensure that if offences occur, they’re investigated and are put before the courts or other judiicary options that are available to us.” The accused teenager will appear in Bunbury Children’s Court at a later date.
