Tough start to WNCL season for Bunbury’s Chloe Piparo continues with pair of losses to New South Wales

A tough start to the Women’s National Cricket League season for Chloe Piparo’s WA continued with a pair of losses to New South Wales in their double-header in Sydney last week. Captaining the side, the Bunbury-raised batter managed scores of 22 and four as they suffered a six-run defeat on Thursday before being thumped by 143 runs on Saturday. Ahead of an extended break for the T20 Spring Challenge and Women’s Big Bash League, WA are without a win from their four games and are ahead of last-placed Victoria only on net run rate. After their loss on Saturday, Piparo said the their campaign had got off to a “disappointing” start. “We’ll still look to learn from this game, and then post-Christmas we’ve got a block of eight games to throw ourselves at,” she said. Piparo is currently without a contract for the Women’s Big Bash League, but is set to line up for the Scorchers in the Spring Challenge, which they will begin on October 22 against Sydney Sixers. Created ahead of last season to give women’s State cricketers the chance to play more T20 games, the tournament sees each side play four pool-stage games, with the top four progressing to knockout finals.
