Residents in Chittering are being warned lives and homes are at risk as an out-of-control bushfire rages in the area.

People in Cullalla and Mooliabeenee have been told they are in danger and need to act immediately to survive as there is a threat to lives and homes.

The fire was reported at 11.10am and is not contained nor controlled.

The Department of Fire and Emergency Services issued the bushfire emergency warning just after midday for people bounded by Cook Road, Cullalla Road, Barn Road and Bindoon Moora Road in the Shire of Chittering.

For people in the emergency warning area, if the way is clear leave now for a safer place.

The DFES warning advises residents to evacuate in a southerly direction towards Bindoon.

Firefighters are actively working to contain the blaze.

Authorities have urged motorists to avoid the area, reduce speed, and follow instructions from emergency services.
