Busselton continued its unbeaten South West Football League season with a commanding 65-point victory over Dunsborough in difficult conditions at Dunsborough Playing Fields on Saturday.
The 14.5 (89) to 3.6 (24) loss means Dunsborough remain winless over their local rivals, while Busselton notch their 12th win in a row this season.
The opening quarter was an even contest, with both sides kicking two goals to head into the first break level.
But the Magpies took control from that point, keeping the Sharks to just one more goal for the remainder of the afternoon despite the wet and windy weather.
Busselton handled the conditions far better, moving the ball cleanly and making the most of its opportunities in front of goal.
The visitors’ accuracy proved the difference as they steadily increased their lead across the final three quarters.
Liam Creighton again led the way in attack, finishing with five goals to continue his outstanding season. It was the fifth time this year the competition’s leading goal kicker has booted five or more majors in a match.
The Magpies also received strong contributions through the middle, with Jalen Hoffman continuing his impressive run of form, while Bailey Sanford and Mitch Tenardi were influential around the contest and helped drive Busselton’s dominance.
The victory keeps Busselton’s unbeaten record intact as the Magpies continue to set the pace at the top of the ladder heading into another crucial week of the season.
In the women’s clash, Busselton made light work of Dunsborough with a 14.13 (97) to zero win.
Sarah Lang led the way for the Magpies kicking her second bag of six goals for the season, while Rennie Meadmore and Kendra Thompson both chipped in with two.
The Magpies are in rare air with both teams still undefeated this far into the season, as both look to add to their premiership tallies.
It’s the third week in a row the Sharks have been held scoreless as they look to find a much-needed win this weekend.
Dunsborough have two very winnable games this weekend against Eaton, while the Magpies host Augusta-Margaret River for the Busselton Toyota Cup.
