Chilling details revealed after mum Kristie McBride dies following street brawl between two groups of teens

A killer teenage girl appeared “normal” just hours after fatally stabbing a mother to death during a street brawl organised on an Instagram group chat, it can be revealed. Kristie McBride died after she was stabbed multiple times during a fight between two groups of teenage girls, after a confrontation which had been planned the night before. The girl who struck the fatal blow was among four who pleaded guilty to manslaughter ahead of a murder trial at the NSW Supreme Court. They cannot be named due to their age and were listed by court as LT, DR, KT, and TH. The agreed statement of facts, which has now been released to the media, reveal chilling details of the south Sydney brawl and subsequent death of Ms McBride, including how the then 15-year-old who stabbed the mother multiple times had appeared “normal” in the aftermath. The fight was planned in a group chat called ‘The Big Yappers’ the night before, with KT telling a girl from the other group, which included a relative of Kristie and her sister Carly McBride, to bring her sisters and that she would flog them all because they had “talked s--t” about her and her sister, the court document states. One teen texted the group: “You gon (sic) bring girls ... c--t I’ll knock yous all”. DR, LT and KT obtained three knives from Coles on November 22, 2023, before meeting up with TH to catch a bus to the fight. Ms McBride and her sister, Carly, drank bourbon and cokes throughout the afternoon before the street brawl kicked off nearby about 6pm. Carly armed herself with a baseball bat while one of the teens grabbed tins of cat food and put them in a sock. Ms McBride had an unknown object in her hand. KT could be heard saying “Oh they have a bat, man” in a video of the brawl. Ms McBride, Carly, and a group ran towards the young people, with TH grabbing a knife around this time. The documents state Ms McBride approached LT, then TH moved towards the 39-year-old, holding the kitchen knife. TH thrust her knife at Ms McBride’s head — causing a laceration — before moving back towards the street. Ms McBride moved forwards towards the teen, who went on to stab her twice in the stomach. “The young person (TH) thrust the knife at the deceased a total of three times over a period of two seconds,” the documents state. Ms McBride, bleeding and holding her wound, moved back away from the street at some point, saying “that little c--t” stabbed me”. Another teen who was recording the brawl said “They came with knives, you f--king p---y c--ts...yeah run c--ts”. KT, LT and DR were taken to a police station and charged with affray after a police car was flagged down shortly after the fight. Meanwhile, TH went to a shopping centre with two others before asking her social worker to pick her up about 7pm. “I’ve been hit in the head and my s--t has been stolen,” TH said. Her social worker picked her up from a McDonalds about an hour later, with the woman noting the teen “appeared to be quite normal, nothing out of the ordinary”. The teen told her there had been a brawl and she thought someone had been stabbed during the drive. TH was arrested the following morning. Ms McBride was taken to hospital where she was placed into an induced coma and underwent emergency surgery. Following two more surgeries in the days following the brawl, Ms McBride was declared dead on the evening of December 1. A post mortem examination ruled Ms McBride’s cause of death to be the abdominal stab wounds, which led to liver and kidney failure, among other conditions, and subsequent brain death. The documents state TH believed her actions were necessary to defend herself and her friends, however the stabbing was “not a reasonable response in the circumstances as she perceived them to be”. KT, LT and DR are liable for manslaughter as they were “complicit” in Ms McBride’s death, court documents state. This is because they participated in a joint criminal enterprise with TH to commit affray, in circumstances where they were in the possession of knives. The three girls foresaw that serious harm could potentially be inflicted, but went ahead anyway, the documents state. However KT, LT and DR did not act with an intention to kill or inflict grievous bodily harm, and didn’t foresee that others would do so either. Parts of the brawl were captured on video, which is expected to be played to the court during their sentencing. The matter will return to the Supreme Court on December 15.
