The family of Jane Rimmer has released a statement revealing they can take “some comfort” in the conviction of her killer Bradley Robert Edwards, adding that it means their “healing process can begin”.

Ms Rimmer, 23, vanished from Claremont after last being seen outside the Continental Hotel on June 9, 1996.

Her body was found in bushland at Wellard in Perth’s south on August 3 but it took more than 20 years for a breakthrough in the case that eventually saw Edwards charged and convicted.

“The Rimmer family is pleased that we finally have a verdict which gives us some answers about the abduction and horrendous murder of our beloved Jane,” the family statement said.

“Jane had her whole life ahead of her, and it is almost beyond comprehension this could have ended in such horrific, heinous circumstances.

“Our family can now take some comfort today and the healing process can begin.”

The Rimmer family thanked the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions and WA Police for the way they had interacted with them through the difficult time and the extremely thorough and professional manner of their work.

“The Police have been supportive and kind to our family for 24 years,” they said. “They have kept us informed and up to date in all developments over a long period of time.”
