At least 55 deaths in January were COVID-related, WA Health claims.

As predicted in last weekend’s The Sunday Times, it was the highest monthly toll in a year.

Eight men and eight women died in the week ending January 28. All were aged over 60.

The 16 matched the death toll for the previous week.

The seven-day average of currently hospitalised COVID cases decreased from 160 to 143 in the week to January 28. Intensive care unit cases remained the same at six.

New hospital admissions fell from 46 to 31, with just patient admitted straight into intensive care.

According to the latest Perth wastewater sampling, 85.8 per cent of detected Coronavirus was the highly-mutated JN.1 sub-strain.
