Police are investigating a fatal crash that killed an elderly man in the Perth suburb of St James.

The crash happened at about 3.40pm on Wednesday when a silver Kia Sorento was being driven south-east on Jarrah Road.

At the same time a white Hyundai i30 was being driven west on Boundary Road. Soon after, the two cars collided at the intersection of Jarrah Road, Boundary Road and Hill View Terrace.

The driver of the Hyundai i30, an 82-year-old man from Thornlie, was taken to Royal Perth Hospital by St John Ambulance but he died on Friday.
