A man's body has been found in bushland following a public appeal to find a missing bushwalker.

Darren Banks had last been seen at a Macquarie Fields home southwest of Sydney on March 15, NSW police said in an appeal for information on Thursday.

The 57-year-old was reported missing the following Tuesday after having not contacted family since.

His Toyota Camry was found on the Starlight Trail at Wattle Ridge west of Bargo two days later.

Police search specialists and State Emergency Service volunteers were called in to assist in the search before the discovery of a body in bushland south of Campbelltown on Thursday afternoon.
